Something very strange is happening in a US state known for strange government activity, including the testing of nuclear weapons.
In New Mexico, a solar observatory has been shut down and evacuated, with the FBI refusing to tell other authorities even what is going on. It’s like the plot of some science fiction movie or novel.
One of the largest active solar telescopes in the world, of course used to examine the Sun, is located in this New Mexico town: Sunspot Solar Observatory, in Sunspot, New Mexico.
Last Friday it was shut down, all personnel were promptly evacuated, and the FBI appeared on the scene “almost immediately.”
Employees and of course the public have all been universally, indefinitely banned from the premises of the usually quite normal observatory. The website representing the observatory simply now reads “TEMPORARILY CLOSED.”
The local sheriff sent deputies to the scene, and is blindly following orders because he has no idea what is going on, according to him. He found “no specific threat.”
Otero County Sheriff, Benny House simply admitted “The FBI is refusing to tell us what’s going on,” in a statement to Alamogordo Daily News.
“We’ve got people up there (at Sunspot) that requested us to standby while they evacuate it. Nobody would really elaborate on any of the circumstances as to why. The FBI were up there. What their purpose was nobody will say.”
At a high altitude of 9,200 feet (2,800 meters), the observatory is located deep into the Lincoln National Forest. As one articledescribed it “the observatory’s remote wilderness location is exactly the sort of place where strange and suspicious stories take root.”
A resident living in a town nearby named Cloudcroft said to the media that “nothing really happens” up there at that remote location. The resident remarked that this evacuation could be caused by “almost anything.”
Dark, remote locations where scientific research takes place are bound to be suspect, especially in a paradigm where scientific research involving big pieces of infrastructure is centrally controlled and influenced by big money.
The local post office for some unexplained reason has also been shut down, and that was basically the only clue that was provided to anyone.
However, just now a statement that doesn’t really say much of anything was released by the solar observatory. They tweeted a link to their statement which reads:
“On Thursday September 6th, AURA made the decision to temporarily close Sunspot,’ the observatory said in a statement shared on social media.
The Sunspot Solar Observatory continues to work closely with AURA in order to allow for us to reopen as soon as possible.
With the excitement this closure has generated, we hope you will come and visit us when we do reopen, and see for yourself the services we provide for science and public outreach in heliophysics.”
Sure… We bet you do hope we come down and visit. There’s something suspicious about attempts to communicate that there’s nothing weird going on at all, in that subtle way by saying “we hope you’ll come down and visit with the excitement this has generated.”
If the FBI is there and won’t say anything, everybody, one hundred percent has good reason to be suspicious that something strange is going on, and no amount of trying to make the place look innocuous and sciency is going to change that fact. People would be wise to not be naive about authority.
